How to repair a cut powersupply fan wire...

Just received my Antec 350W power supply, and accidentially cut one of the wires on the connector that supplies power to the rear fan (in power supply). It's a two wire (no fan monitoring wire) with a three pin connector, hooking to the M/B "Power Fan" lead.

I want to do more than twist the wire ends together and wrap with elec. tape, but need some advice on how to proceed. Best (most cost effective) alternative to buying another p/s???
😕

Only way I know is the twist and tape method or any variation. That's the cheap way. If it works, great. If not, get another ps and keep all sharp objects away from the cables. 😉 Good Luck

A good, permanent splice will do the job.

1. Cut away the insulation about 3/8 to 1/2 inch on each wire. Twist each end tightly.

2. The twist the two wires tightly together and tin them with a soldering gun.

3. Fold the twisted ends flush against either insulated wire and wrap tightly with electrical tape.

An alternative is to use a small wire nut. Twist the ends together, insert then in the nut and twist until tight. Then wrap with electrical tape to preserve it.

That wire will probably never be subjected to a lot of pulling, so really, anything will hold up. Might as well make it as neat as possible. 🙂

thanks for the advice corky. sounds like a good plan! And yes Hal, scissors and wires do not mix 😱
