Hey guys,
Well a friend of mine wrecked his 1995 VW cabrio a few days ago, and he wants to get everything out of the car before the shop totals it. The car is presently sitting in the body shop's lot awaiting for the insurance apraiser, so he has no way of looking at the radio configuration himself.

Anyway, he has a Pioneer headunit that he had installed at bestbuy that he wants to get out of the car. However, he has no clue how to remove it. I'm wondering if any of you have worked on this kind of car before and would know if he needs DIN tools or anything.

If it helps, I believe the cabrio is very similar - if not identical - to the VW Golf.

Thanks for any help!

Don't you need a "special tool" that looks like a big "U" made out of paper-clip sized wire?

If that car is similar to my 1990 Golf, and the factory headunit is similar to the Pioneer headunit, you should be able to use a thick paperclip to shove down the tiny holes at either side of the stereo. There will be either 2 or 4, I don't know, and you'd need a paperclip for each.

Leave it parked in a shady neighborhood over-night. Last night the stereo in my truck came out no problem for whoever decided they wanted it.
