How to remove non-connected, unused "Default Monitor"

How in the heck do you remove the "Default Monitor" from the Display Properties windows when only one monitor is connected? Two monitors are displayed in the Display Properties window; my Dell 1905 and a greyed-out "Default Monitor".

I've tried removing it from the Display Properties and the Device Manager, but it keeps returning. This is an issue on two of my PCs. What's the fix?

Connect a monitor to the 2nd port, install and uninstall it.

Is that all that needs to be done? Why would connected a monitor matter?

Driver probably isn't loading if the device isn't connected. Once it's loaded, you can uninstall it.
