How to remove "Glass streaks" from aero taskbar?

futurefields

Hey guys, I just reformatted my PC and reinstalled Windows 7.

I am trying to make the background plain black, and the aero taskbar black without the "glass streaks."

I had achieved this before without installing any additional software and without doing any registry edits.

Does anybody know the steps to remove the "glass streaks" so that my taskbar will be flat black again? (see below)

Thanks,

There's a theme on deviantart called 'aero plain' by garbonzox(?) that removes glass streaks from title bars and the task bar. You also have to install a utility called 'UXStyle Core' which installs an unsigned themes service on your computer. I do warn you, however, that I did this and the driver/service associated with this program gave me some infrequent BSODs. It's not malware/harmful to your computer, but it wasn't exactly stable for my configuration. There's also probably some inherent security risks that you'll take if you install this.

What'd you do in regedit? I never heard of this method.

I downloaded that AeroPlain theme but I can still see the background streaks of my wallpaper on the taskbar.

I do have the uxthemepatcher installed

what gives?

A quick Google search brought this up:

Open regedit and navigate to:

Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER|Software\microsoft\Windows\DWM then double click on ColorizationGlassReflectionIntensity and change the value of the Decimal from the default of 50 to something lower like 1.

You will need to log off and then back in again to see the change.

Also got linked to this if it interests anyone(makes aero completely transparent):
