How to remove fine wood dust from bike chain/gears??

So where I live, they replaced the 2nd floor carpet with wood tiles. It is nice, however, the past few weeks its been raining. So they decided to cut the wood in the Garage...which left a nice layer of saw dust on my bike (great........and I was so busy with work [ie: > 15-20 hours a day this week] I never noticed)

OBviously removing it on most of the bike is just a matter of cleaning it off with cloth..... but how do i remove it all over the gears and the chain? That is definitely not good for the bike :x

A brush should get the dirt 'n' sawdust off your gears no problem.

I really don't think it would hurt the bike. Wood is far softer than metal - it's not going to grind things down like sand would.

It isn't going to hurt anything. Just hose the chain and gears down with degreaser, dry with a rag, and then lube it with your favorite chain lube.

I use a Grunge Brush (tm) + the Grunge Brush (tm) brand cleaner then chain lube on my motorcycle.

So does that Sheldon Brown link up above. That shit seems like some kind of test to see how stupid people can be when it comes to thinking that some underground expert knows better than the common man.

Unless you're racing a sprint in the Olympics on that bike, hit the chain with some WD-40 and a toothbrush. Grease up the chain accordingly and get back to riding. No need to disassemble the entire chain link by link as suggested in the link above.
