I know that there is some windows program that allows for cleaning up the programs that load on start-up. I only have 3 listed programs in the start-up directory but a lot more are being loaded and probably unnecessary and slowing my computer down. I remember running a program but don't recall what it is called. I use to go to start menu and run and type in the program name but it has been a long time. Hopefully someone knows what I am talking about.

Which OS?

Windows 98, go to Start | Run and type in MSCONFIG. In the startup tab, disable what you do not want. Also right-click on task bar, go to Properties, and select the Start Menu tab. Click Remove, browse to Startup, and remove what you do not want there. Other OS may require registry hacks.
