How do I remove the CMOS battery from a MSI-RS480M2-IL Motherboard.
If anyone has done that, I would like to know how.

I'm glad I'm not a woman or I'd be complaining about my nails from doing that the last time...

I'm not sure if I should start another thread: I have an Intel D865PERL motherboard and I need to change a coin-shaped battery, too. What do I do with the lever or whatever that's holding in the battery? Slide it--up? Sideways? I tried pulling it back. I heard they're easy to break, so I want to be headed in the right direction.

I read these batteries are supposed to last 10 years. The computer is a year old and the date is now sometimes wrong. I'm not sure if it's just when I remove the power cord from the computer. Are there conditions that can cause the battery to go bad?

I got a D865PERLK and I poped the battery out to reset the bios. I coulnd not find the manual for jumper setting for clearing the bios or get on line.

Bend your index finger to your palm. There is a very small retaining clip shaped like that holding down the right edge of the battery. With a jewler's screw drive held verticly push back the clip, as if you were pushing the index fingernail tward your palm. The battery will pop-out. The left side of the battery fits under a semi-circular black plastic shoulder.

Check it with your multimeter. I too have been lead to believe they last a very long time.

The spring clip is stiff so just use a steady-hand. I taped a small flashlight to my case to get the best view possible of what I was doing.......

Thanks. I'd have to turn off the computer to look and be sure I understand. I remember when I looked before there were two things sticking up at the right. It looked like the inside one, holding the battery, should be pulled outward, toward the outside one. Or are they both the same piece?

Are you saying I should push it left toward the battery or away to the right? Is this something I could do with a fingernail or do I need a small screwdriver for more leverage?

A clerk at Fry's told me not to touch it with metal, but it looks like he was wrong.
