How to remove a huge tick from a dog?

Just found a huge a$$ tick on my dog on her ear inbetween two folds (she's a lab). I tried to gently pull it out, using a tissue paper but the thing just won't come out. I feel if I pull any harder I'll just get the body out and not the head as well.

What's the best way?

We used to just put clear nail polish on it..then after a bit when it dies, just pull it off.

pair of tweezers - make sure you pinch the head and not the body, or the head will detach and become embedded into the skin, causing infection.

Chainsaw!

...

Or just light a match, blow it out, then immediately touch the matchhead to the back of the tick while pulling gently on it with tweezers. The heat often makes them release their hold and move.

Already burnt and flushed...that and I have nowhere to host pics.

It was a bigin! Which is strange cause she has that stuff that goes into the skin that's suppose to repel ticks and such.

I always just grab and pull - the tick's head always comes out.

For some reason, my dogs got more ticks when they had tick collars or the skin stuff. I stopped putting the collars on them; I think between the two of them they've had one tick in 3 years.
