Hi,

I have recently put together a rig. I want to be able to remote boot my computer after it is shut down but still connected to a PSU.

I have read the following links

http://www.realvnc.com/products/viewerplus/1.0/docs/ag1028488.html

http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Intel_Active_Management_Technology_(AMT)#Pre-configuration

but am still unable to find the specific tab in BIOS.

My comp details below:
ASUS p8p67 deluxe
2600 K SandBridge CPU
Corsair 750 TX PSU
HIS Radeon HD4670
Coolermaster CPU Fan
Windows 7 64 bit

any advise is most appreciated.

On a side note -- does anyone with the same mobo and cpu have issues with not being able to put the computer to either sleep or hibernate?

TIA
bob

Not sure how wake on LAN will start the PC from a cold boot?.....i believe WOL is for like waking from sleep for routine processes, download updates, virus scan from server console etc....
We use a product here called Team Viewer, which will allow such commands as restart etc, remote control of PC blah blah, but it wont start the PC from cold boot, it will though I imagine wake the PC from sleep, but I cant say Ive tried it...

It's called Intel AMT technology.

http://www.radmin.com/products/radmin/intel_amt_features.php?sphrase_id=179236

this is a very good link -- I just do not know if my recently purchased p8p67 deluxe has this feature. The bios loads so quickly I really cannot tell what I need to do to activate it. Even in advance mode of the BIOS I do not see anything remotely relevant to Intel AMT ---

I am hoping the gurus on Anand tech forums can give me some exprert advise

thanks again

Pretty sure that Intel AMT deal is only available on Q67 based motherboards. The product KK linked looks good for your need.

i actually wrote code for intel AMT at work.

you need a "Q" series chipset. its basicaly an onboard web server on your machine that is very low power with lots of different functions for it.

the newer versions of AMT even support things like viewing your screen remotely vnc style if you use the onboard graphics.

That's actually really neat. I could see that having applications.

yeah AMT does have some neat features like that but its pretty poorly supported software wise.

One of the other cool features is (and well it was not so useful until the VNC thing was added) was you can do things like change your boot drive and such remotely and do remote installs etc.

i know one of the main AMT guys at intel had one of his PVRs setup using AMT to record shows and such and he could control it remotely to turn it on and off, and it would write a listing of shows recorded into the firmware's flash memory etc
