I've got a data file that I cannot open/copy/rename/delete in Windows XP. Whenever I attempt to do one of these things on this files, I get "Access Denied", as if the file were in use. There is no open program that is using this file. How do I make this file usable? This is an NTFS drive.

Thanks

Locarno,

What kind of file is this? Cuz I have this one mp3 file that it won't let me touch. It's not set to "Read-Only", but it won't let me do anything with it. VERY frustrating.

I would also like to know.

And yeah, I'm logged in as Adminstrator.

Yes, I am the Administrator.

When this happened in Win9x, we just used DELTREE. What now?

Try right-clicking on the file and select properties. Make sure both attributes are unchecked, then click the advanced button. On the next screen, try unchecking both options in the Archive and Indexing Attirbutes. I have unlocked many files this way, it's worth a try ;)

Locarno,

What file? When you say a data file, do you mean an os data file or one of your own (like a mp3 or image, etc)? Is it stored in another users documents and settings area?

I cannot change the attributes/permissions--I get a "Access Denied" message and an odd "Ignore/Ignore All/Retry/Cancel" dialog, wherein ignore and cancel seem to do the same thing (cancel). This file is an ordinary .mpg file that I have viewed before. It is in my own Documents folder, and I am the only user on this computer.
