How to register expired domains?

Im sorta curious too... I wanna get this guys domain that expires in March.... Do ya register just like normal after is expires?

You register it the same way you'd register a new one. Most registrars don't release them until 45 to 60 days after expiration, then they do what is known as a "domain drop". Piles of names are released at the same time early in the morning, and it becomes a free-for-all. If you're quick enough you might get lucky.

Every place that lets you register checks to see if it's available first.
The one I want to register expired on Sunday, but I'm still not able to register the name.

And, you won't be able try to until it's dropped.

The catch is that they don't tell you when they're doing a domain drop.

I remember making a whois page my homepage for 2 months after expiration just waiting for it to become available and then seeing a squatter get it on the morning it was dropped. I was pisssssed

You have any idea how to find out when these domain drops happen?
Also, does each registrar do theirs at different times?

Thanks,
