I had some pictures on my computer that I want to recover. I had used P.Magic to set up 3 partitions. 1st xpHome, 2nd data, 3rd xpPro. He un partitioned them and did a fresh install of xpHome.

Am a #$%*'ed or do i get some K-Y and a cigarette.

From all I know on partitioning, you remove a partition, you lose the data on it as well. You -may- be able to recover information on the first partition that remained, unless he removed ALL of them and started over ( which normally causes the reinstall to format all the platters )

My guess is you're SOL. The internet is your friend. start surfing and find those pics again.

GetBackData will do FAT and NTFS, you just need a FAT or NTFS version of GetBackData. Long story short, if you haven't written over the data, it will still be there. And by all means, take that drive out and slave it! Just using it as a system disk you are writing over data (system swap file). Slave the drive and try recovering the data with data recovery software like GetBackData. If you've written over the data you can pay $5000-$7000 to send it off to a company to recover the data for you though. ;)

Lesson learned. Always put your data on another partition, be it D:, E: or whatever.

Oh, and slave that drive ASAP, put in a new drive, and make sure it has partitions!

You can order fairly cheap adapters that let you plug a laptop drive into a desktop's ide and power connectors. I'm a little too rough on my laptop and have lost two drives already so it's turned out to be really useful to plug the dying drive into the adapter on my desktop and eek out as much data as possible. So in other words could help here and be a good investment besides. ^^

I hate to have to order a part and wait. (i saw one of those adaptors in tiger's rag). I wanted to use my laptop this long weekend while visiting the family. But if I start reinstalling my programs and surfing I suppose those digital Kodaks will be gone for sure.

Note to all: Always RENAME your pic cause the thing will automatically rewrite over the last set of pics you DL'ed.

-> GETDATABACK

not GETBACKDATA...jeeeeeezzzzzzzzzz

Yeah..i think i used that once because i lost a whole 98 install partition..and the amazing thing was after it recovered all the lost files and i copied them over...the whole 98 partition (which i lost) worked again 100% for my multi boot system ! That's amazing since i didnt expect it to recover ALL the data...but it did. And i formatted, repartitioned etc..etc.. several times
