Been reading awhile and this is my first post. hope somebody could help me!!

I tried merging two of my partitions using Powerquest's Partition Magicpro and during the process a power failure occurred. When I restarted my pc, one of the partitions being merged is lost. I ran partition magic again and it says "A power failure seems to occur during the process, partition magic has marked your partition with recoverable markers so it can't be accessed by the OS, you can safely recover the partition and all its data.Try recovering it now.", then I clicked the button labeled RECOVER but the program just hangs up. I need those files, can anyone help me?? I have tried tech support from PowerQuest but they need the serial, but since I just borrowed the installer I don't have the serial number and my friend told me he doesn't have it anymore.

Any help will be appreciated!!

Outlook not so good. I don't think you are going to be able to recover from that. It sounds like the power failure screwed the recovery process up. Hope you made backups of your important stuff.

Don't give up just yet , Your os was what? and it of coarse is on the first partition which you can see? how many partitions were there? and you are only missing the one partition right? can your os see the others? I take it you want the files on it
not the partition itself? did the partitions have drive assignments, D:\ E:\ f:\ etc? Do you have a recent boot disk?
I may be able to walk you though this. In the future if it's important back it up, a UPS is also a wize investment, of coarse
I sould talk! Call me; Runz

I'm using XP Professional, and there are three partitions, c, d and e. C contains my program files and I tried merging D and E and I lost the D partition. Getting the files will be enough but if I can recover the partition, why not? Unfortunately I don't have a recent boot disk. Other partitions can be seen by the OS. Tnx.

I'm sorry Sir Kongnique,Mrs made me mow the lawn,I was hoping to let it grow long enough to harvest and sell for feed, but the mrs. didn't like the idea of having the only lawn on the block 4 feet high, but enough about me, lets get your stuff back!
Will your Bios see the partition?; [restart and hold down the del. key] if not, don't despire, just checking ; you will still need
a boot disk;[start, settings, control panel, add and remove, startup disk tab] . Do you only have one HD?
I'm watching now

my apologies Runz, but I am using company computer in accessing the net so I can't immediately check my rig and reply (the phone line in our area is down for the meantime). I've got to finish my shift and check what you said that's why it takes me a day before I can get back to you. If you find kongnique a bit long, call me kong. But if I I'm not mistaken, I don't think I can create a boot disk in XP thru [start, settings, control panel...] Yes, I've got only one HD. It will take more than a month before the lawn grow thick, so you will not have to worry for another month.

Seeing a hard drive in the bios doesn't matter here because he only has 1 hard drive made into 3 partitions and partition C still works because that is what he is booting up with. Did you make the emergency boot disk partition magic asks you if you want it? If not, you are pretty much screwed.

You MIGHT be able to use Norton Disk Doctor. I think I had something similar happen. I was trying to move a drive from one machine to another where the old pc needed ezbios. I mistakenly removed ezbios without backing up the data first and lost the extended partitions I had and the data in them. Decided to take the long shot and tried Disk Doctor, it successfully recovered everything, partitions and data. It might be a longer shot for you as this sounds a bit worse. Good luck!

"But the kettles on to boil, and we're so easily drawn away". OK, KONG it is, I have no experience with XP,but seems any OS
could use and be able to create a boot disk, of coarse one could be downloaded, and one I know of really stands out, not only starts computer, but has more drivers for *other* cd players, and diagnostic tools; check it out
WWW.webmasterfree.com/ubd.html
For some odd reason I have had better success using a boot disk rather than just F8ing. and speaking of that , restart and hold down the F8 key, command promt only, type fdisk [enter] ; display partition info, don't try to do anything here yet, just
wanted to see what it says. Now type C:\ [enter] then D:\ [enter] than E:\ [enter] if you had started with a boot disk you could have typed
F:\ and maybe more. If D:\ says invalid drive specification we could indeed be in trouble here. IF it did not than type
dir/w [enter] see your stuff? if you do we're home free! ,if not don't give up just yet I really believe your stuff is still there
but theres no path to it. I'm thinking of another way but haven't come up with it yet, NEVER SAY DIE!
Long ago I tried progams such as Drive copy,Ghost,Norton, etc they are expensive, invasive, and unnessessary, and are now part of
my vast and growing coaster collection, and hanging from your fruit trees they help keep the birdz away, I'm just full of useless info, full of love for my fellow mankind, why when people see me coming they say "here comes a guy thats just full of it" still watching; RUNZ out

Ya know, this may be as easy as restoring an old registry, it couldn't hurt,(no really). not sure if XP will allow it though. Bill Gates is not in charge of MY computer! he's not,he's not,he's not, or is he?
At the prompt type scanreg/restore [enter] take it back to a kinder, gentler time.

RUNZ over&out

time, oh well, if yer gonna be stuck in a position.
