how to record audio (simple question)

I have a microphone plugged into my SBLive MP3+ card and I can hear that it's working.

What's the easiest way to record the sounds it hears onto the computer ? Even better - record/encode as .mp3 ...

What programs do I use ?

I tried XP's sound recorder and it doesn't seem to be recording my test voices at all... something I'm missing ?

Make sure you don't have the mic muted. You're only allowed one input at a time (line-in or mic).

I used creative recorder with my sb live. Was part of a software package available on the creative site. Just make sure the microphone is on in the control panel and record line in or mic in (can not remember).
