how to reattach reset button wire connector?

I accidentally pulled out the wires from the little plug for the reset button connector between my case and motherboard. How the heck do you reattach it? It has two tiny little tabs, and two gold pieces on the inside that move back and forth, but I don't see how they work. Thanks.

Should work like a doorbell. Works just like the power button. They are interchangeable. What I mean is they do different things but both buttons work on the same principle. When you push them in they send a signal to the powersupply or motheboard or both. Normally they have only 2 wires coming from the motherbord to the case. You have to have the Motherboard wiring diagram to figure out where to plug it in at on the motherboard. You might need a case diagram if the wires came off of the case.

Should be using what is called a momentary switch.

I think you misunderstood my question, I accidentally pulled off the little black plug from the wires for the reset button line, and am trying to figure out how to reattach it. I guess I could just solder or tape the wires directly to the motherboard pins but they are really tiny and that would be a lot of fussing.

Actually, pressing the buttons completes the little circuit the wires make with the pins on the mobo. You could try to solder the wires straight onto the pins?

If not, why'd you need a reset button anyway? :)

I think I know what he's saying.. you know the 2 slot blaok plug that attaches to the reset switch wire, it appears that he yanked it off the wires so it's separated now.

If this is the case, then you should be able to put the wires back in the slots (cause they have a metal piece inside the black plastic slots, and then either tape the plastic piece to the wire casing. If the wires broke off, then you may need to strip your wires, but it should still work. If all else fails, you can always just solder the wires to your mobo pins.

Yup, exactly. I guess I could just stuff the wire back in and tape it, if they do contact correctly. But how does the little tab work for reattaching the wire properly?

Kind of hard to explain... usually the little tab sort of clicks in, holding the wire in place. You can pop the tab up to remove the wire. If you yanked it out with unlocking the tab, it might still be 'locked'; try prying it up with something like a jeweler's screwdriver.

You should also be able to get new connector blocks from, say, Radio Shack (they sell lots of little electronics pieces), or maybe CompUSA (the repair department might have them).

You could also solder the wires to the pins, or just use electrical tape to hold them on. The power/reset buttons are just momentary contact switches; they don't do anything but connect the two pins together when the button is pressed.

yeah, i had that happened. a pita.

i stripped the wires down a bit and wrapped them around the pin and used ssome elec. tape as i had no solder on hand.
