Core Temp tells me the driver failed to load and spams popup windows until I end the process, TAT doesn't work either, speed fan doesn't report properly.

What do I use?

Looks like you're covered with adequate cooling. I wouldn't even bother with monitoring, cause most of the programs aren't accurate. If you're cpu overheats, you'll get random reboots. If you're worried, skip the overclocking, or use a water cooled setup with 120mm radiator.

yeah, but I am experimenting with different fan configurations (push vs pull), different fan speeds and am measuring over time (orthos or DC app). I'm wondering exactly how much difference I'm seeing.

I know this thing is stable and isn't overheating, but again I like to keep track of this during experimentation.

I have tried Asus's software and it seems to work on Vista now...only thing I can find, but this is not a core temp.

Everest Ultimate Edition works for the core temps. They're just a little below TAT temps.

Are you using Asus probe II? On my P5B-E with XP x32 probe II, coretemp, and TAT all read within 1c of each other under load, and are most of the time in agreement.

At idle Asus probe shows 2-3c cooler than the other two

Speedfan 4.32 works fine in Vista 64 and has a signed driver. You do need to run it as administrator to get all the performance counter data.

Under the preferences windows where you configure the taskbar temp icons, there's a section for the sidebar gadget.
