Have you turned off PhysX yet?

Going to do that tonight.

I have made a check list with all suggestions from easy to hard. Someone also said to uninstall Virtu MVP but I couldn't find anything on the net about it hurting. I do have it "off". Tried it "on" and did not make a difference.

I forgot to post this in last post. Added it.

CPUz shows CPU Core Voltage varies: .92v-.968v moves up and down between these two.

Turning off PhysX is the easiest thing to do and has a 99% chance of solving your problem...

Yes, exactly this. I had this exact same problem in M:LL and this was the solution. I'm pretty sure this is a troll thread.

I dont really care what the net says. I SAW WITH MY OWN EYES that Virtu destroyed frame rates on a 290 in Mass Effect 2. If PhysX doesn't solve it this has a good chance of being the problem. But please continue to ignore people telling you repeatedly to turn off PhsyX. Just don't expect more help when you wont try what people suggest.

No need to go getting bent out of shape and making baseless accusations.

I did turn off PhysX in Metro LL. It made no difference in FPS.

In regards to looking up the Virtu MVP deal, nothing wrong with looking something up and having a conversation about it. Have you ever been on a team where your trouble shooting a issue?

Uninstalled Virtu MVP and there was no increase in FPS.

I wish those easy solutions were the answer. I found lots on the Internet about low FPS and AMD cards and Metro LL. Turning off advanced PhysX in the game does not seem to work in this case. Very frustrating.

Try turning everything to low and report back. Also, make sure that your GPU isn't throttling.

I will have to do this over the weekend at some point. Will need to set up a second screen with a spare LCD monitor I have. Then will monitor with MSI afterburner.

Just played the game for a few minutes and the FPS didn't drop below 52. Will try again to get it warmed up.

All the monsters were not out yet. I am in the scene where you ring the bell and the boat is coming for you. All the monsters come out and try and kill you. Heavy action scene.

I will look at voltage also.

I used MSI afterburner. I played Metro LL for 10 minutes. Here are as best I can say the results. MSI lists reading for all cores of CPU.

CPU set to automatic "turbo mode" where it can go from 3.4 Ghz to approx 3.8 / 4 Ghz

No extra over clocking, card is Sapphire Tri-x factory OC, factory settings

Fly in tunnel sequence (opening credits) at beginning of the game: 30 FPS steady
FPS after hitting "space bar to continue": 52-54 FPS
In city of Venice low action map: approx 52-54 FPS

I had to read those graphs for some readings. So may not be exact but at least close.

Problem solved?

GPU Temp 117-135 F
GPU Usage 100%
GPU Core approx 600
GPU clock approx 1000, drops to 300 at Windows desktop
CPU temp approx 104 F
CPU Usage approx 80-90%, drops to almost zero at Windows desk top

Are these under load temp? I seriously doubt it, not on the F scale anyway. Give us some C temps for while the game is running slow.

I thought you said your FPS were dropping to 10-15? What are the readings when you get those bad FPS.

The biggest problem with the Metro games seems to be physics. It's been a while since I played it, and looked at it, but I kinda remember that many complaints went away when people turned off in-game physics.

AMD videocards don't have hardware-enabled PhysicX, that's only for nVidia cards. Even with nVidia cards the physics could be harsh on your system. But with AMD-videocards I think the physics stuff has to be computed on the CPU. Can be very painful.

So turn off all physics. I don't think it has any impact on gameplay. And hardly any impact on graphics. Hopefully that helps.

Under load temp of the GPU 78 C , drops to 56 C at Windows screen, no game or anything intense running

Thank you every one.

Next card will be a Nvidia (970?) so I can run everything all the time including PhysX.

Even with a 970, you'd likely turn off PhysX. While it'll handle it better than AMD, your FPS are about as low as you'd probably like to play, and PhysX will still slow down Nvidia systems, just not as much as an AMD GPU.

I was hoping a 970GTX would solve the issue.

Maybe get something on Black Friday sales.

Though about a Intel i7 for my board but wont really help since most games aren't set up for multiple thread handling as far as I know. To much cash for to little return.

You may be able to use a 970 and get playable FPS with physX on, but that game doesn't really do much with PhysX to be worth the loss in FPS. At least in my opinion. Batman AA was worth it, so are a handful of others, but there are not many games worth using PhysX on and I didn't think Metro was one of those.

Totally pointless to get a 970. You already have a card that is as fast. There are almost no games with GPU PhysX these days, Metro LL and Batman being literally pretty much it. And all PhysX High does is add random debris flying out of stuff that has no impact on the game whatsoever, super underwhelming. But if you want to pay $300 to see some little chunks of dirt fly around go for it

Anyone who is projecting the view that a 970 does not have the minerals to run metro with physX you know you can safely ignore. However, a 290 is more than capable of running that game. Even with physx. Both a 290 and 970 should eat that game, notwithstanding any bugs that have yet to be patched out (which seems to be the case here).

Consider the possiblity that you may buy a new card but the bug persists. Do you have a friend you could swap cards with to help diagnostics?

Offtopic: grad school and a full time job, brutal.

Good luck. =]

I played all of Metro LL on 3 monitors (5760x1080) on a single 290. Had to turn down settings from max obviously but it still looked quite good

I have Metro LL and the Batman game. Metro seems to be working well. I don't have that much time to game. I do it at night after my brain fry's from studying.

Goatsecks, thanks. :)

I wanted to do a clean install of Windows 7 pro to decrease the chance for a software or driver bug. Then load all updated drivers, etc.

That would blow up the connection to my games on my steam / game drive. I would have to start over on all games. Plus reloading everything is a pain.
