How to protect my network against P2P probs

I have been a user of bit torrent for quite some time, until recently I got a notice of copyright infringement concerning one of my downloads. I have a netgear NT314 router and 2 desktop computers behind it, also running Peer Guardian on both, with the bit torrents ports being forwarded to my downloading computer via the router....which until 'the notice', I thought was secure enough to avoid this problem. Apparently not!
In my case, the file was a movie and I was contacted by the film company through my ISP.
Is there something I didn't do, or something I need to do to be more secure? I mean, other than abandon P2P networks alltogether? I really don't want to worry about getting another notice, but not sure what ALL my options are.
Thanks!

wow...was peer guardian up at the time blocking the IP addresses...hmmm...maybe you have not updated it..this could be a real concern

I thought peer guardian was very good to avoid this...do you know the companies ip address...if so send to makers of peer gouardian to block it

Yeah, Peer Guardian was running at the time, but I've come to find out something wierd about that program. When you pick the auto-update, it will say it's up to date....but the minute I uninstalled mine and reinstalled the same exact version, the blocklist went from blocking like 30,000,000 IP's to more than 200,000,000! It appears you have to do a full uninstall/reinstall to get the maximum benefit of protection, and the blocklist update doesn't do it...:S
Maybe I am covering my bases well, and I just need to do a full uninstall/reinstall from time to time to keep it up to date??
