I'm trying to print some papers, and the printer says black ink is full but color is empty... Logically I should be able to print grayscale text and graphs. But when I try to print, it looks like there is no ink left, and what doe print is bluish. Why in the hell is my printer using color ink to print text? How do I force it to use the full black ink tank???

Any reason you don't want to reveal what printer you are using? ;)

Turn color off. Which printer are you using?

EDIT: Printer Preferences ---> Color ---> check print in grayscale.

Holy crap http://www.inksaver.com/printer-info-center/inkjet-insider.html

That pisses me off.

# Is color ink used to print black text?

Yes, many inkjet printers will combine color and black ink together, even if you are only printing black text or greyscale images. The printer manufacturers do this in order make the black more vibrant. The result is that you sometimes end up using color ink even if you think you're saving money by printing in black and white or greyscale.

Tried that, still gave me unreadable blue text...

It seems like not only does it add color, but it uses NO BLACK INK WHATSOEVER when printing black text. :|

Maybe this will help. I have a couple of different HP printers and on both I can go into the print setup, select the color tab, check print greyscale & then check the box "use black cartridge only"

Heck, I just downloaded the user manual for your printer and it doesn't appear that someone was paid to make it complete and answer your questions, just to create one and put it in the box.

Nope, that didn't work. I tried both just selecting grayscale, and also "print only in black". With both settings, I end up with a sketchy blue.
