"how to play basketball site" (skills and such)

I saw a site that detailed a lot of how to improve one's game once... I think from AT. Anybody happen to know it? I suck at the google.. I couldn't find it.

I want to work on ball handling... positioning... fundamentals... that sort of thing.
Tips?
Drills for dribbling?

I'm also going to start running and possibly attempt some circuit training.

I want to get in better shape and basketball is my favorite sport, so I figure... getting better at bball will help me want to play more, which will help me stay in shape (and do better on the court too).

i dont know what site it is but one most important thing is leg strength. a lot of people neglect how much physical strength it actually takes to play basketball.

How old are you? You gotta practice against good players to get better. However, you can get better also by working on fundamentals and ball handling yourself. Do you have any organized ball experience?

I am in college. I haven't played organized ball since junior high, but I go play pick-up games fairly regularly (at least when I'm out of school). There are some areas that I can improve on just by playing. But there are a couple things I want to work on by myself. ie, ballhandling. So any drills and such would be appreciated.

watch a spurs game, mimic Tim Duncan. doesnt get any more fundamental than that

<~~ Played varsity basketball at high school for two years and I recommend you to buy basketball tapes. It'll help you a lot. I first played basketball when I was in third grade with instructions taught by a former college player. That former college player went on to become head coach for my middle school basketball team.

Right now, I do play pick-up games and intramural basketball games. I'm also on travel basketball team. I'm only 20 years old.

What poistion do you usually play? Point Guard, Center? Your height, weight and current skills will make it easier to determine the best training for you. Let us know.....

gotta have height to play like duncan. can't teach height.

do you think HS stars you see in the NBA had any formal training other than kicking it in the playground ? Practice ... a lot. Drills were introduced to these star players to refine their skills, not to create them.

It's not like it's baseball or hockey where coordination is key and more skills beyond the basics are required.

That's the problem with basketball, and the NBA in particular. Why do you think the US got killed in the olympics? Athletic ability will only get you so far. Coordination and knowledge of the game is just as important in basketball...

Use a tennis ball and dribble it around campus and practice your cross overs, between the legs, around the back on the court up and down. Keep your head looking the backboard when you dribble and don't look at the ground.

ever watch the and1 mixtapes? keep an eye on the point guards... its all for fun, but for me, trying those crazy moves gave me good handles. plus if you play recreationally, you can pull some crazy stuff out once in a while to keep the other guy on their toes 😛

my advice: plan out a workout/practice regimine on paper and follow it when you practice. while playing lots of pickup games will keep you sharp, it usually won't further your skill set. here's a site with tons of drills: LINK. just don't go a court to practice and launch 3-pointers all day. practice midrange shots, layups, etc. i usually start close the basket with layups and close bank shots, and then move out towards the 3 point line slowly.

you current skills should dictate what you want to improve. are you a inconsistent shooter? are you unconfident with your ball handling? do you find yourself getting tired too quickly? or are you just lost on the court?

getting better at dribbling usually requires lots of dribbling (duh 😛). most people aren't comfortable with their off-hand dribbling. next time you go to practice, try to exclusively use your off-hand. no matter how awkward it feels, use it for everything (besides outside shooting) even layups.

imo, the best way to get better via practice is to treat it like working out and lifting weights. even when you don't feel like it, go and put in some time. also, try to keep up your intensity while practising. run hard and jump high as if you were in a real game.

Yes, tons of it.

Most have been coached in school from the elementary through high school, coached in the summer leagues(AAU) and some have even attended coaching camps held by collegiate and professional coaches.

I was an All-State basketball player when I was in High School. I don't really have any tips, a lot of it is just your 'touch' in terms of shooting. If you are having trouble scoring, make sure you keep your toes pointed towards the basket, bend your knee's, and keep your elbow straight and pointed towards the goal. If you are right handed, your left hand should only be used to support the ball. In other words, don't shoot two-handed. From there, you should be able to line the ball up with the goal everytime with a little practice, the harder part is figuring out how to judge how hard you need to push the ball to get it there.

Thanks for all the replies.
iamme, that's exactly what I was looking for

I'm a pretty good shooter, though that's all I'm pretty good at. I'm going to start running and working out again to help with endurance, strength, etc. I play mostly on the wing (2 or 3). I need to work on my inside game and rebounding, as well as ball-handling and quickness. I don't expect to ever be "good," but just serviceable. I figure, if I get better, I'll have a lot more fun, which means more playing, which means better health, on top of the fun.
