how to play arcade games on my pc

I would really like to play some arcade games that i sunk a small fortune in when i was a kid. I have been reading on emulators and ROM's but i am still clueless. say i wanted to play galaxian, what would i need to download?

How do you legally own a ROM? Do you have to purchase the old game? What about platform, or the does it have to be the specific game/system your emulating? Do you also have to own the original console as well? What about stand-up arcade games?

I've always been interested in doing a legal MAME machine...

i can legally download Killer Instinct 1, Killer Instinct 2, Mortal Kombat 1, and Mortal Kombat 2 roms as I own the original PCB's of all of them .

You may own the boards - but do you also own the drives (images) that came with KI1 & 2? If not, then you ain't got squat for legality.

Actually, I was thinking that I like to USE the InterNET to find them.

I say spring for the dual-joystick one.

Just so you can play Karate Champ and Robotron how they're supposed to be played. Besides, you can use it for all the 2 player fighting games.

I came accross a killer deal

I picked up a KI2 cab, w/the game inside and a perfect 25" monitor in it, for $300 . the pcb/hd kit itself goes for about $200 on ebay. then I picked up the PCB/HD of KI1 for $125 from someone (another killer deal, those things can get to $300+), and I got MK1 and MK2 from the same guy for $70 total. this thing weighs a TON, i believe its exactly 420lbs. The whole reason I got a cab was because I had my cravings for KI1 back, as that was my favorite fighter by far when I was growing up. so I found this deal and finall got it. however, I havent turned that thing on in ages heh ...
