How to ping a port

Like the title says, I would like to ping a certain port. I setup an FTP server on my computer, and I THINK I have the port forwareded correctly, but I can't get connected from work. I ping my IP and it times out, but that is normal with a router. Is there any way to ping port 21 specifically to see if it gets routed to my computer or not?

So it's not being forwarded correctly. Check your configuration and try again.

before you get too excited about forwarding, try and connect on the lan side first, if possible. Many times the problem is in the FTP server setup itself.
