You need to invest in your buiness. I've seen many small businesses fail before they got off the ground cause the owners weren't willing to take a risk and put some money into them to cover start up costs.

What state are you in?

Usually new businesses are handled via the Secretary of State's office.

If you go to their website, they will have info on registering a trade name, setting up your business as a LLC or some form of corporation.

Good luck!

larciel, let me give you some advice: do not start a business by the 'learn-as-you-go' method. You will save yourself a heap of grief.

Maybe that's not what you intended, but by the sound of it, you are already down at City Hall filing the necessary paperwork, and you really have no clue what you're doing. That's what I mean.

Stop, take a few steps back, and RESEARCH this before you start making any positive moves towards engaging in business. There's a maxim that has become sorta cliche, but its no less the truth: People don't plan to fail, they fail to plan.

Starting a business is all about planning. You should have been asking this question...oh...about three or four months ago, if you wanted to have your business up-and-running by the end of next month. Even a small business can take up to a year from conception of idea to commerce.

There is still time, the 'window' of opportunity for starting a business isn't going to 'pass' you by. You can start a business any time, as long as your plan is sound and your economic model viable. Without question the #1 reason for business failure is POOR/INADEQUATE/NON-EXISTANT PLANNING.

first get lotsa Money,
get a lawyer,
go broke from lawyer fees :(

ususally before you can open a checking account the bank want proof of your buisness name,
you will need to get a tax # from your state to cover your butt,
