I've got the same problem. I have two pc's and a router. They're both online, but one is running Win 2000, the other is XP. Can anyone tell me how to put these two on a network? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can probably just use the XP networking wizard. Go to control panel/ Network Connections/ Setup a home or small office network. Also see the above links on XP Network troubleshooting and the Anandtech networking FAQS.

DO NOT USE THE XP WIZARD!!!...as it causes the OS to install a "bridge" for some reason. The XP wizard is a crock...

Alot of the times, since it is XP and Win2000..make sure these components are installed under Lan Porperties....

1-Client for Microsoft Networks
2-File and Printer Sharing
3-TCP/IP (and that it is properly bound to your adapter)

Also make sure that you are on the same IP scope and usually a Class C subnet of 255.255.255.0

You may even have to create user accounts for the 2 computers as World Of Windows Networking advises.

Disable the Windows XP firewall, and make sure that anything like Norton AntiVirus (auto protect) is not enabled at the time of setup. Also what seems to cause problems....is Zone Alarm Pro if you are using it...It definitely causes problems behind routers...

Oh, and make sure that you have no IRQ sharing with any device...and the NIC
