This requirement did seriously offend me but I did not want to get into that issue since it all happened this week and is still recent for me. It was a tough decision between staying and leaving. I finally decided to provide the information but with a scathing letter that clearly showed my disapproval of the policy. It seems that my disapproval was the strongest they have ever received or they just made it appear that way in the two different lectures I had to endure afterwards. Unfortunately, this issue has seriously clouded my perception and dampened my enjoyment of working with them.

Thank you for stating you might be offended because I have been having a difficult time figuring out why no one seems to understand my offense.

Well the thing is, asking for the paystubs is unethical and I would flat-out call them on it. I really would, I would strorm out and point my finger and say 'that's wrong'. I'd refuse, I wouldn't accept employment and I'd tell them it's wrong. They know it's wrong, you don't do this. That is severely breaking protocol and I'd have no problem telling them such.

Listen - I'm not some jackass on the internet. There is protocol to give/take negotiations. In no way shape or form is asking and demanding what the other guy is paying. That's fucking wrong. After editing this message if a potential employer wanted to press what I was making I'd tell them kindly "that is NONE of your business and you should know better than to ask". You are purchasing a product and service - ME And I will demand fair market value.

I guess negotiating is a learned skill. There is a game to play to figure out your position. I was called an idiot earlier, but it is the idiot that doesn't understand where he is at and accepts less than he is worth.
