How to migrate AOL user stuff from one PC/version to another?

My girlfriend refuses to leave AOL. She's been with them for 4 years and just doesn't want to change. Whatever.

I just gave her a my old PC with a fresh install on WinXP Pro and AOL 7. She used to be running AOL 5 and has a bunch of mail, address and bookmarks she'd like to keep. (Her old PC's HD is slaved into the new box.) Is there any way to import/migrate/use these old profiles? I tried copying the organize folder over, but that wasn't recognized.

Now that you've stopped laughing your arses off, does anyone have a solution for this? Thanks!

What you did was fine, except that you can't always mix versions. Especially 5 to 7. Put your drive back in her original computer I guess...

What you want to do is upgrade her version 5 to version 7. That way it will upgrade her cabinet files. Then when that is done, then you can copy all the files and transfer them over to the new XP machine.

It's pretty straight forward, you had the idea right, but you need to get her version to 7 first. Do that, and you'll be just fine. I've done it many times and just did it last night actually with version 7 so I know it works. And no, I don't use AOL, so don't yell at me. Let me know if you need any more help.

Aw jeez, that's gonna be a mess. Will AOL 5 run on XP and then allow the upgrade? (And if so, where can I get an old coaster or DL?) I just dread having to tear these rigs apart. I spent 3-1/2 hours and wasted a warm, sunny day trying to get this going yesterday.🙁

Where is her original computer? Put her HD back in it, download version 7, upgrade, then copy the files to the new XP machine. That's all...Pretty straight forward.

I was just trying to avoid tearing everything apart, but I can put the HD back into the old rig and then run an AOL7 CD to do the upgrade. This will FOR SURE allow me to dump the organize folder over and it'll be recognized and everything? I'm planning on doing this Wed. nite, so a quick answer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
