I just upgraded from windows 2000 to windows xp.
after the upgrade, I have a lot of issue, especially with my tv tuner.
now most of thing is resolved. but there are several issue remain. I'd like to have an advice about how to solve it. The issue:
- Computer cannot resume from stand by (using bios 1008A; works ok with 2K)
- vshield does not work (Viruscan 5.21)
what's wrong with my vshield? isnt that nt, 2k, and xp is based on the same code?

My system:
-Asus A7V133 (KT133A VIA)w/1.5 GB PC133 Intel approved Seitec SDRAM (Cas 3)
-Athlon XP 1700+ (not o/c)
-Geforce 2 GTS 64MB (Latest reference driver 28.32)
-SBLive value (Latest winXP driver)
-AOPEN fast ethernet card
-TV tuner
-internal 56K modem
-DVD & CDRW
-Quantum Fireball AS 30GB

did you just run the upgrade from win2k to winxp? if so, format, install fresh, and then see what problems remain.

any other alternative than fresh install?
I tried to both uninstall via 4in1 and update the bios to 1009, but the problem remains.

Yep. You get all the problems of the old OS + all the problems of the new OS + a whole bunch of other problems that show up in the upgrade.

IIRC, there is an update on Windows XP Update site that fixes the computer-resuming-from-standby problem.

Clean install is always best as for your anti-virus that`s mcafee right ? Anyway try AVG from here ,it`s rock solid and free, also works great with XP,I would get all the updates for XP including drivers etc.

I also installed the VIA 4 in 1 drivers (4.38) ,had no problems with XP, but I always do a clean install.

Wow that's a lot of RAM! Especially considering RAM prices nowadays :Q!

As for the issue of your PC not resuming from standby, TV Tuner it is, TV Tuner. I remember when I was using a TV Tuner based on the Brooktree BT878A chipset, I was getting the same issue and a few others. Well, I didn't use the standby feature, anyway :D.

I read somewhere that old AV programs wouldn't work in XP. I'll bet you're going to have to upgrade that AV program of yours.

I agree with those who say that a fresh install is the way to go. Upgrades are asking for trouble. A format and fresh install cleans out the "waxy yellow buildup."

In response to the title of this post, "How tro make windows XP less suck?" the answer is to format your hard drive and use Win 2k.

The problem will then be fixed
