i love the soft serve ice cream, but i think it's rediculous to pay $2 at the pseudo Good Humor truck.

is there a way to make it at home w/o spend hundreds of $ for the machine?

soft serve ice cream is just a bunch of air incorporated into the ice cream. i am a little leery of any recipe that says to add other stuff.

find a cheap machine

You can make really good soft-serve ice cream if you can get some liquid nitrogen.

Cream, sugar, vanilla in sealable sandwich bag.

Ice, salt, and sandwich bag in gallon size freezer bag.

Shake for five minutes. Soft serve ice cream.

uhhh...

that's churned ice cream... probably a half-assed version of it.

Soft serve is when you have a machine that dispenses it, created from a dairy-based liquid. Softserve is what you get at Dairy Queen, McDonalds... churned is the kind you buy at the grocers in a box or tub.
