How to make/obtain explosives that detonate on impact?

Just once, I'd like to mail a soft-boxed package (fake info of course) with the 'stuff' inside. I'd write, in permanent marker, "Hey, you fvckers, handle this sh!t carefully!" all over the box.

Haha :)

Put gasoline in bottle. Dip rag in, and put halfway in. Light end of rag. Throw. When it hits the ground....explosion.

Ok, it might need a little alteration to work inside a cardboard box, but you can work with it now that youve got a general idea.

Or if you want to be really evil you could get a lot of strike anywhere matches and cut the heads off, and pack them in really tight.

It also really easy to make nitrogylcerin. Very explosive if bumped hard enough. My chem teacher actually put the chemical equation on an exam. Afterwards I asked him if we could make it in the lab. Of course he said no, and so I told him that it "wasn't fair". He responded by saying "Well, it also wouldn't be fair to make your lab partner pick your fingers up off the floor." The moral is that if you make something that will blow up if handled incorrectly, you are likely to blow yourself up. Fair warning.

Well not really an explosion, more like vigorous burning. Gasoline isn't explosive but the fumes can be.

Detonate is a technical term that suggests a different kind of reaction/process than mere burning, however vigorous that burning may be. Dried Picric Acid that is crystalized will go boom when dropped and will yield roughly the same explosive force of TNT. Of course, dry Picric Acid is so shock sensitive, you may not make it to the mail box.
Heh, yea, youre right:)
But I think that will still put out the desired effect for him;)

I think I saw that movie too, do you remember the name of it?

Fight Club. They didnt make it with soap...soap was the by-product. I think

I didn't see Fight Club, but there is a common thread between explosives and soap. The old way of making soap involved combining animal lard or fat with lye or potash. A by-product of this process was the release of glycerin from the animal fat. You can recover pure glycerin from the soap-making process after removing the soap, adulterants and residues.

The glycerin can then be nitrated in the presence of sulphuric acid and you get nitroglycerin.

Soaps today don't contain much glycerin unless they are created to be "moisturizing" soaps, glycerin is very hydroscopic. Those 'natural' soaps you can buy from small specialty soap making companies can contain a lot of glycerin. Some moisturizing lotions and creams are glycerin based, but you can buy glycerin by the bottlefull so I don't know why anyone would chose to extract glycerin the hard way.

BTW, dynamite is basically nitroglycerin absorbed by some inert material such as wood saw-dust. The inventor of dynamite was Alfred Nobel, after whom the Nobel Prize is named.

Although making nitroglycerin may not require sophisticated lab equipment, it is EXTREMELY risky unless you know EXACTLY what you're doing, contrary to what some of those 'Anarchist's Cook Book' and similar publications might claim.

They should rename some of those books "20 Sure-Fire and Easy Ways to Blow Yourself to Bits."
