Invest in quality fans, undervolt if you want quieter, and avoid graphics cards with fans.

There are some very nice Papst 12 dba 80 mm fans that you can put in a P/S, and use on your CPU.

Use a G450 for your video card.

Undervolt a 120mm Panaflo for front input.

Buy a liquid bearing HD that uses at most 2 platters and put it inside a SilentDrive enclosure.

That should be pretty damn quiet.

The 80mm fans will run you $20 apiece, you'll need two. The 120 will cost around the same, the SilentDrive is around $40 if I remember correctly.

It is VERY possible to have a fast yet quiet system, my dual 1800+ system is quiet enough that several times I've not realized it was on & turned it off in an attempt to turn it on.

I suppose you could always go get yourself one of those fanless iMacs... whatever else you think about them, they're quiet..

Screw all that! Put the case in the garage and use extension cables. Fans make noise. Get over it!;):(

Of course if you never turn it on you'd save the cost of the cables....but in the winter the garage will get really cold....

Or get a 120mhz Pentium.....or get a laptop....

Computers are a tool, they should not invade our homes, offices, and sleeping areas & bombard us with their hum.

They can be reduced to a whisper with minimal effort, & once you've owned a "silent" PC you'll wonder how you ever lived with the howling monster.

yeah I'm thinking I'm going to need to invest in quieting my PC down... when I built it I used jus so fans I had lying around or just bought ones that worked for what I needed..... now its fairly loud. I'll bee checking in on this post for recommendations.

How good do the HD cases work? Do HDs put out a considerable amount of heat? I'm a newbie and ass my case temp went up I just added another case fan..... I have 3 Hard Drives inside

Cars are a tool, last time I checked they made noise... tools make noise... almost everything makes noise... I guess I don't get bothered by my computers fans, because I block the sound out and don't even realize it's happening or else I'm listening to music...

Well I just opened up my computer to try and find out who the main culprits were of my silence probelm and my CPU fan is making HUGE amounts of noise. Any recommendations for a good one (cheaper is better)

Also I unplugged all my fans and was amazed how much sound my drives were making. I think thats second to silence.

Man I hope this doesn't cost TOO much to make quieter

Do you let your car idle in your livingroom?
