Cats love to drink from moving water. There are fountains made specifically for cats. Maybe get one of those then add something bitter to your decorative fountains water.

A desk fountain would be practically irresistible to most cats because they love to drink from running water and they love to be up somewhere high like a desk. My cats jump up all the time to visit me at my desk, and if I have a drink they will usually investigate and try to drink if it's water. I have one cat who loves ice tea as well. So I keep a heavy whiskey type glass on the desk and fill it with fresh water daily for them.

Filling your fountain when it gets low is going to be easier than fighting the losing battle of keeping your cat out of it. You should also change the water out completely and wash the fountain periodically so nothing grows in it and makes your cat sick.

Sounds like OP missed a perfect excuse to get rid of his cat. Although I understand it's hard to give up the only pussy he's ever touched.

After 15 years the kitty is probably no longer drinking from the fountain. Problem solved, thanks Mr. Death!

(As long as it isn't a Winchester tabby....)
