Just toss any fruit, anywhere from 1-3 cups into a 750 ml bottle, and let it mascerate for at least a week. Age to taste then decant the liquid into another bottle and enjoy.

I use 100-proof vodka (smirnoff blue label) as a base when I make Limoncello. Turns out awesome and costs way less (and tastes better) than the stuff they import. Unfortunatly it comes no where near the stuff you get in Sorento, Italy...

Cheesecloth should be ok don't know about a nylon stocking.

Cheesecloth is actually the preferred method (at least by the Italians I know) and works very well. I have my own recipe and tried it once with blood oranges instead of lemons, turned out awesome, though not as refreshing as lemon. Gonna try lime next.

I was thinking of either vanilla or tea flavored. The lemon does sound pretty good though.

The lemon is great but it is better not to think of it as "flavored vodka". To many, it is an entirly different drink. But I would think that you could just soak vanilla beans (watch out, these things are freaking expensive, I have seen $15 for one!!!) or tea bags in vodka (get good vodka to start with). Leave them like this for 1-7 days depending on the strength you want and it should work.

For vanilla I get Absolut Vanilla, but thats just me :)
