How to make a hard drive bootable? (Error Loading OS)

I got a new motherboard and chip, now when I try and start my computer, it says Error Loading OS (or NTLDR not found or something)

but if i start up with my windows xp cd, and press nothing where it says "press any key to boot from the cd", the boot menu loads up fine and i can get windows to work

so in a jist, i can only load my windows installation if i boot from my windows install cd

What motherboard is it?

edit: also, list your complete system specs, including all drives.
