Im running an athlon 1.2ghz thunderbird.
Generally it runs around 55-58c
I am trying to decide whether I should get a new case (my current one only has room for one fan)
or if I should put on a better HS and fan.

Also, what are the benefits to bringing the temperature down.

well ... i heard that over 60 its dangerous ... so keep away from it is really interesting ...

well ... changing to a more powerfull cooler will low this .. ok ... but it will yet throw hot air over the Heatsink ... so if cold ( less hot at least ) air could be used there, even your cooler could make it ...

i made a hole in the case roof, and recently more two beside ...

i have a 800@900 at 41~46, what is ok for me ...

unless your cooler is really a mess ... i'd give my case fresh cold air :D

please ... i'm not telling you " cut your case ... "
i just said that sometimes cooler changing is not worth/enough

I'm assuming you are using the stock hsf combo, in which case I would get a better setup. I'm sure that would drop temps dramatically.

the things you could do are

1. Lower the temp in room (biggest helper)
2. Add more intake fans, even rear (help more than outake trust me, lowered my temps 10c when i tryed it)
3. Put your computer under a vent or air conditioner hole

You could always go with water cooling :D but if not then you could cut holes in the case for fans or just get the fan that hooks into a pci slot.

Let me understand
Are you guys saying a case with better cooling is better?
or are you guys saying a new processor setup is better?

I am using the stock cooling on my proc.

My case isnt very good either. I have one front fan and thats it. Other then the fan in the powersupply.
The case really doesnt have room for another fan.

The case I was looking at has space for 2 rear fans and two front fans.

As for proc heatsink and fan.. if that would be better can you guys recommend some?
