I've been slowly fixing up a 2000 Chevy Metro that my son got as his first car nearly 2 years ago. The last thing I fixed was getting 2 gas filled 'helpers' for the rear hatch/trunk, so that finally it doesn't fall on our head when we are getting things out. The other thing I've been focusing on is trying to increase the mpg. Last month on a nearly 4 hour trip, I got 42.5 mpg. I just changed the oil over to full synthetic, and I'm hoping now that it will get over 43 mpg. My son has since moved on to a Cadillac, so this is sort of a backup vehicle for us.

About 6 months ago, I bought a $20 stereo with a USB port on it, since the old radio died. It works ok for what it is, but I've occasionally found myself wishing that I could somehow xfer online audio (podcast, for example) to an MP3 file, so that I could listen to it on the road. In the old days, I would just record audio from the radio or streaming audio from my PC onto a casette in the stereo I had hooked up to my PC. However, that's no longer an option, since the car radio doesn't have a casette player, and my old stereo that I had hooked up to the PC died years ago.

I would like to simply use a USB flash drive to transfer the files from my computer to my car stereo, but I'm not sure if there is an easy way to capture any audio that is playing on the computer to a standard MP3 file. Can any of you recommend something that would accomplish this easily?

Thanks so much!

Depends on how they implement the streaming, how to capture it, and some ways are easier than others.

Can you link to an example?

Things like The Bud & Broadway Show, https://www.spreaker.com/show/the-bud-and-broadway-replay

I don't mind if they embed advertising into the show - they have to pay for it somehow to keep it going. However, I don't have data on my phone, and I don't want to mess with their app, drm, or whatnot.

Basically, I guess I need something that can record any audio playing on the computer to an MP3 file. I could do it manually using my stand alone Philips Voice Tracer, but that would also record any noises or talking that hapens in the room with the computer. Plus, I'd have to always make sure to set an alarm to remind me to go hit the stop button at the right time, when it ends.

Per your example, I just loaded that link in Chrome browser, clicked the Play icon, then once playing, right-clicked and choose VideoDownloadHelper and clicked the file name, and it downloaded it. Next I clicked play on a different date, again right click, choose VDH and click the file name. VDH is a browser add-on.

Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper

^ lol, I didn't even see that download icon, though my suggestion was more universal in that it often works on other sites that don't provide a download link.

Thanks for the Videodownloadhelper info. It is exactly what I needed. I listen to a local college station that archives it's shows for a few weeks. Every once in a while they have a really great show that I'd like to keep a copy of, now I can.

I had no idea such a utility existed.
