How to limit V90 modem speed?

I'm using dialup :( and the USR 5610A PCI internal 'hardware' modem. The modem is indeed very snappy. I flashed its BIOS to the latest version and using the latest USR Windows XP drivers. It constantly connects at 50.6 Kbps. However, after a few hours it may lose the connection. I had a different modem in the same PC, it connected at only 45 Kbps but it was also much more stable, the modem was rarely ever disconnected.

Does anyone know what AT commands I have to add to the modem initialization string to limit the connection speed to, say, 40 Kbps for stability? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance for any replies to this thread.

did u connect to the same ISP with ur other modem? It shoudnt be the speed that causes you to get kicked off. check the modem properties so it never disconects.

It was exact same ISP, system, phone line etc. I think that it becomes unstable b/c the modem sets a higher speed than my phone line can handle. Right now it's connected @ 52.0 Kbps, and that's obviously an overkill. If only I could limit the speed to 40Kbps, I'm sure it would work just fine.

OK, I'll try that. Any other way to do it via AT command set (and, perhaps, it'll set the speed more precisely?)

The above page tells you the exact commands needed to limit your maximum speed.

I have to limit my speed as well on my Lucent Winmodem. It will always connect at 50.2k. I tried every step down from 50.2k until I hit 46.6k. At 46.6k it is completely stable and I download around 5.7KB/sec :D Where as before at 50.2k it would constantly re-train and I never broke 2KB/sec.

on my modem i added an init string to force it to do v90 only:

+ms=v90

zoom tech support told me also to try

s25=200

but i'm not sure what that does..
