How to let others browse my network over the net?

I would like to be able to give a select few of my friends access to my file server via a net connection, is there some program I can get (without spending $$$) that will allow them to do that?

Setup IIS and/or FTP Server. Port fowarding on your router for the port 21 for ftp and 80 for HTTP.

I'd just setup something like GuildFTPD, it's simple, and it'll allow you to share files easily.

if your fileserver runs linux, you should check out proftpd.

Another thing you could do is set up a VPN that they log in to and then they could mount your sharud drives as network shares ... but that can get complicated
