How to let faxes through when online?

I currently have a stand alone fax machine and a 3com Faxmodem Pro external on the same line.
Is there a way to let faxes get through to the fax machine while online. I know this is possible with software fax programs that save the fax on your hard drive but I would like incoming faxes to print out on the external fax machine.

there is no way to let faxes through since the internet connection acts just like a phone call, just pickier.

BUT, there are call waiting modems, and the new v92 modem technology has inherent call waiting features, but expect a few months for v.92 to actually become a modem you can hold, buy and install.

look into the call waiting modems, and see what you can do. but i think the time it takes to print a long fax would make it worthless since some modems can only stay on hold for a few seconds.

also, there are online faxing services. basically, the faxer would fax to your account's phone number (this account would have a "fake" fax number), which makes it similar to email, and your computer would receive it just as if you were using your computer as a fax machine.

look into the faxing services yourself, since i don't use them, nor can i give you much more information than the previous paragraph.

Thanks mday but I was hoping that someone would know of a program that could do it. My old cannon multipass had a multipass manager program that allowed me to do this but its not compatible with other fax machines.

I think Mday gave you the only answer there is. He is knowledgable and does enough research on things to make his analysis credible and valid. You should go with it.

By the way,I am in need of the same thing but need to wait for a solution as well. I concure with Mday because I did the reseerch also. You will need to wait for V.92 or Voice over IP and a dsl hook up or something.
