How to learn to "eat only until full" instead of stuffing my face?

MichaelD

I love food. All kinds of food. I love food too much. I love to eat food....help.

For instance; I have an entire big Tupperware thing of leftover chicken and vegetables. One plate is a meal...but I can't stop. I feel the need to eat until sated. This isn't healthy, I'm sure.

Unless my stomach feels "really full" I have the urge to keep on eating. How do I stop this?

ps
You can't reply "Stomach Staples" b/c I just did. 😛

Believe me I know exactly what you mean and I do this EVERYNIGHT at dinner. I will eat until I am bloated and almost to the point of vomiting. I don't know why I do this but I just do. When the food is there it's just like man keep eating keep eating. I would think it's a psychological problem. I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who has this problem.

Easy.

Wear clothes that do not allow you to stuff your face. Lose the muu muus and the caftans, man!

😛 😉

Really there isn't much that you can do to force yourself not to stuff yourself. However, it is more question of self control and how determined you are to not eat the excess food.

i love food too man. I find myself eating just to enjoy the taste...not when I'm really hungry.

lately before stuffing my face though I find myself asking, "am I hungry?" the answer is usually no so I put down the food.

Drink water before, and during eating. Eat slowly, and when you feel like you are getting full, stop eating. If you are still hungry later you can eat a fruit or vegetable or something healthy.

Drink a lot more water. I read unless you are drinking a gallon of water a day you are most likely dehydrated.

Eat slowly and drink water. I takes about 30 minutes after filling your stomach before your brain registers "full", which is why it's so easy to eat until you feel sick.

That's easy, just image your girlfriend tallking about your body in a public forum the same way you do about her's.

OWNED!!!

definitely eat slower. the reason you eat so much is because your body doesn't have enough time to tell you it's full before you eat more and more.

Of course you'll have the impulse. It's an Italian thing . . . food is like an art and a career. Not only are Italian men smooth talkers, they eat a lot, drink and build guts. :Q You can't reverse the nature in you, unless you're reborn.

I was only teasing you. 😀 Impulses are very difficult to control. It's mind over matter. Although I only have an impulse to eat much or certain kinds of food at that time of the month, I haven't really had that experience that many seem to have. But here's my take: Start with the mind. If you have people around you who're so into food, try not to be an active part. I notice that societies where food is plentiful tend to tranform food into an art and then the urge to compete for it in flavour gets out of control. The less you think of food as some art, the more likely you'll perceive it as a survival necessity. And when you perceive it as a necessity for survival, you'll only fill your tummy reasonably to what is needed. There's nothing wrong with having so much to eat once in a blue moon, but doing it frequently becomes a problem. Remember, extremity of any kind isn't healthy in most cases. Hope that helps.

Bon appetit. 😉

you can eat until you're stuffed, the trick is to only eat 2X a day. Thats what I do. First meal 6 hours after I wake up. next meal a few hours before I go to bed. I took me 6 years to get used to not having breakfast.

Thanks luvly. I appreciate the intelligent response. Unlike the bitter women here, you actually had something intelligent to say in your response. Unlike my GF, I have not ballooned up like the Goodyear blimp. I've put on exactly 12 pounds since we met. Not exactly a lot on a 73" frame. True, I'm still about 15 pounds heavier than I'd LIKE TO BE. But it can be worked.

Anyway, you're right about the Italian thing. I love the wine, women and song. 🙂 Sometimes I wish I didn't like to cook; I'm my own best customer when I cook. 😱

I also am doing the "water thing" all day. I have actually lost 4 pounds over the past three weeks. I'm trying! I can tell that the water is making me feel more awake during the day.

What "bitter women" might you be refering to Michael ?

I happen to be in pretty decent shape and am fortunate enough to have a man who considers me sexy.As for being "bitter" I like you but you take the crown in that area.

Hey, I'm bitter like a lemon left out in the sun. Agreed. But hey, you took a cheap shot, (my interpretation) I responded. Anything wrong with that?
