How to kick myself onto the desktop WHILE in quake 3

Does anyone know how to do this? It was possible in win2k, and i loved being able to do it, but stupid XP doesn't seem to want to let me get out of q3. Is there any way?

If alt-tab fails, try cntrl-esc. If you're really desperate, get a Mac and do cmmd-m.
 
You ever try hitting the windows key (the one between Ctrl and Alt)? I can kick myself out of any game with it (never when I want to of course), lol.
 
Windows key, Alt+tab, Control+Escape don't work!! arghh, this sucks.

added - Quake 3 is a OpenGL game, Direct3d is out of the question.
