How to keep the cat hair out!?

I have an antec P160 case. It has a front and rear 120mm fan. The front fan sits behind a filter that comes with the case. The filter isn't really good enough to screen out hairs from my 2 longhaired (shed like crazy) cats. So what i did was to buy some window screening from home depot and wrap one side of the front intake fan with the screening to hopefully catch hairs that the first filter misses.

It work well but airflow is affected. By the time the air gets past the front filter and the screen i'm afraid that there isn't much airflow left.

Does anyone else here have another solution, (don't say get rid of the cats please!)?

I can't think of another way to block the hairs. Has anyone else with this case installed another fan through the side window?

Put the case on the desk, and dont allow your cats on the desk. Thats what I do.

Yup, if you get your case up off the floor at least 8 or 10 inches (I put mine on top of a pair of Rubbermaid step stools - cheap but sturdy) then spray some of that cat repel around it and on a cloth to put on top (to keep the cats off the top of the case) that should do it. And you can buy finer mesh filters from places like SVC. I use the two-part plastic filter holders that hold a sheet of foam filter material on my intakes. Creating a positive pressure environment in your case also helps to keep the detritus out. Otherwise, block all superfluous vent holes as a negative pressure case will suck stuff in thru all available openings.. You can either block the holes entirely or back them with foam or paper filter material (disassembled pleated furnace filter paper).

You could also try dryer sheets, softener sheet things along with lift it up.

Brush the cat. Its good for the cat and reduces the amount of free cat hair.

I have 2 cats and a dozen systems. From time to time I take a system down and outside and blow the dust out with compressed air. There is some cat hair but most of what collects is dust.

Cut some cheap 99cent women's stockings over your filter and vacuum it once in a while.

I don't have cats, but I did get a Holmes HAP625 air purifier from Target a couple years ago and I have it in the same room as my computers. It really makes a big difference in the amount of dust in the room -- the purifier's filters suck in, I'd guess, 75% of the airborne dust that would otherwise be going into my lungs or settling on shelves, my desk or other things in the room. I vacuum the foam pre-filters once a week (takes less than 5 minutes) and they're always heavily caked up with dust. I think I paid around $90 for the purifier a couple years ago, on sale IIRC.

Cleaning the purifier's filters is a lot easier than cleaning a computer's filters (or inside the machine). Just a thought. And like the other guys said, getting the machine up off the floor would prolly help too. :thumbsup:

Rig up a piece of furnace filter would be my suggestion.

I'd agree with the furnace filter suggestion. Furnace filters are designed to pass very large volumes of air without providing too much restriction to the blower in a furnace, so their media should work well in this application. Use scissors to cut it, though.

Want to keep cat-hair and dust out.......Here's how.

It's made from a cut piece of furnace filter, the fan blows inward to create positive pressure. No cat hair has a chance......

i have 2 dogs and i took a peice of tissue paper and seperated the plys. Then i put it on my filter and secured it with a concentrated mix of sugar water (only around the edges tho) works great!

Great suggestions in this thread. I also have 2 long haired cats that have been raising hell on my rigs for 4 years! I will be trying some of these tips out!

..used fabric softner sheets work well. I save em after the clothes are finished drying.
