How to keep the 360 quiet...

I got a new 360 Elite from that dell deal a couple weeks ago, and now the constant high pitch buzzing sound produced by the fan (even when the system is idle) is driving me insane. My old premium was fine as far as fan noise but it would always get dirty disc errors.

I've decided to try putting the system in a box that muffles the sound... there must be a better way to do this but I have no idea?

I'm actually thinking about keeping my old premium instead of selling it on ebay just so I don't have to put up with the annoying fan sound. God microsoft sucks.

Make sure you aren't cutting off circulation to the console by putting it in a noise-muffling box. You don't want to overheat the console and end up with an RROD on top of the noise problem.

Then again if the unit is shipped out to have an RROD repair done, you won't hear anything! :)

You could leave it turned off ?!?!?!?!?!!? :p / stupid me, missed the part where it's happening just plugged in

In all seriousness, did you unplug it and check the fans in the back to make sure nothing is in the way? And it still makes this noise when the console is off?

I came in to mention the Fall update that will remove DVD drive noise when you run games from the HD, but that won't help with fan noise :(

If it's a Falcon then modding it might be OK since the RRoD rate is so much lower than Zephyr. A return to Dell or RMA to Microsoft are the safe choices though.

=sigh= with a PC you could just try swapping the case fan, and keep the old one in a box to put it back if you need to RMA later. I  PCs.

I exchanged it with dell, hopefully the replacement isn't loud like this one but with my luck I doubt it.
