How to keep dust from accumulating in room/on desk

I did an archive search and heard lots about HEPA filters but how effecitve and expensive are there?

Two things I hate about my room is that it stinks and it's dusty. The former I'm able to take care of thanks to air fresheners but the latter is beyond my ability to deal with.

So, any suggestions as to what the best approach is to take with dust? Do "air purifiers" completely eliminate dust or just reduce it?

Anybody?

That just covers the smell, why does your room stink. Maybe clean it?

You gotta have good windows not to let the dust in. Most of the dust comes from the outside, surprisingly. If your windows don't close tightly, that's prolly the cause of the problem. You could close the windows, turn the air conditioner on (if it's installed), then dust would be reduced drastically IMVHO.

Vacuum often, and keep windows closed. Most dust comes from outside. An ionic breeze thing will get rid of any odors.

Dust = dust mite dung. Cooling the room will reduce the amount of dust mites. The difference between their multiplication rates at 68F vs 78F is 1000x.

Get one of those HEPA filter thingys. Then purchase a humidifier and a central vacumn system. Vacumn everyday and be sure to scrub your skin in the shower. sometimes the keytones released from your body make your room stink so that might be the cause of your stinky room.

Definitely vacuum. I almost never vacuumed my dorm room and it was hella nasty. Now that I've moved into a real place to live, I vacuum every week, sometimes twice a week. It helps a LOT.

Do you have hardwood floors, or lack carpeting? I noticed my PC fills with dust really quickly, as does my sister's PC. I've pulled apart other's PCs after years of use, with no dust inside to speak of. Only difference I could find, was that the clean PCs were in rooms with carpeting. My home and my sister's have hardwood floors throughout. My guess is that the carpet collects the dust, rather than it being airborne all the time.
