How to jailbreak iOS 4.1 on 3GS with old bootrom?

I am trying to jailbreak my iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.1, but am running into issues. I get a 1600, 1604, 1603 error when I try to restore the firmware. It seems it's stuck in recovery mode. I've search all over and people recommend making a directory or deleting some files and I've tried that. I'm using the unofficial custom Pwnage Tool for 4.1. I've tried booting in recovery mode, DFU mode, etc. I can kick it out of recovery with TinyUmbrella, but that doesn't seem to help.

Anyone have any pointers?

This is the sort of stuff you should research before updating. You might be able to downgrade to 4.0.1 and re-jailbreak if you stored your blobs through cydia.

This...if you had saved your blobs through Cydia or TinyUmbrella, you would've been able to downgrade.
