How to install WD Ultra ATA Controler Card with drive recognized?

I installed the card on a SY-K7V Dragon Plus. XP found the new hardware and said it prefered it's drivers to the ones that came on the floppy with the card. I wonder if that's right as I had the card installed when I fresh installed the XP and took the card our to fix the first install that busted when I unplugged the drive attached to it because it wasn't recognized anyway and I was afraid my fresh install went to it rather than my equal sized new RAID array. I also formatted the drive on a regular ide cable earlier witrh the WD format tool.

Anyway the card seems to install ok, but when I add the WD 160G drive, jumpered single, to the end of the cable and put the blue end in the card, I get a freeze on bootup that says somethning like NTLDR missing or something like that.

I'm going to try to change the drivers for the card, or remove it and try to reinstall it. I was thinking also to maybe destroy the partition on the drive by hooking it up to a regualr IDE cable and fdisking it to delete the non dos partition. It's NTFS. Otherwise I don't know what the trouble might be. Anybody got any ideas? Thanks.

NTLDR means the boot drive is not found or has not been designated. Check your BIOS and ensure the boot sequence is correct. If the WD card's BIOS allows for it, set it to Boot or HDD 0. Then set the approriate settings in your BIOS, first boot device should be either HDD 0 if you set it to HDD 0, or SCSI (also enable "boot other device").

Wolf, I can't get your link to work.

Chizow, I think you have the answer, as I disabled boot other divices when trying to get the RAID working. I'll try that. I bet that's the problem. Unfortunatley, I'll have to wait because I'm down to one monitor and need to use my one functioning machine at 1:00. Thanks much for the help even though I'm not positive it's the answer yet.

Well that didn't work after all. I still get the NTLDR noty installed or whatever. No drive shows up. I put the drive on the Raid setup as a third drive, reconfigured and now have two 149 G drives, C and H, but I wluld like to use that controler card even though I guess it doesn't matter. The controller seems to have installed WIN xp drivers that are earlier than the ones that came on the floppy, but it keeps saying it prefers the ones it has and wont load the new ones. I removed them, but the wixard keeps reinstalling them instead of the ones from the lfloppy even when I point to them. It says the ones installed are better. Any ideas? thankd
