How to install HD with data on it?

Sometimes it doesn't show up at all, and when it does, I can go through the folders on it but if I try to open any files it crashes the comp.

System is:
3000+
EVGA NF4 SLI
80 GB WD SATA
200 GB Maxtor ATA (this is the drive giving me problems)
EVGA 7800 gt
1 GB Mushkin pc3200
 
It says Maxtor on it. It's probably going out. Run chkdsk on it, try backing it up on another system or copying files on another system and see if it crashes too. If a second system crashes too it's gotta be the drive.

Otherwise...could be a bad cable or something to that effect.
