I downloaded the source, and did configure, but at the end it says:

checking for X... no
configure: error: Blackbox requires the X Window System libraries and headers.

I thought I had Xwindows (I'm in Gnome now)? Or it doesn't recognize it because this X.org thing is installed?

How do I obtain what I need to compile this? Can I even compile it for FC4 64-bit? After it does install, how do I get it to show up as a choice on my welcome screen? I'm a noob at this stuff...any help appreciated.

Attached is Xorg -version if that helps.

Try and add the Devel Packages

Desktop / System Settings / Add & Remove Application / Go to Development in the bottom

Click on X Software Development

If you are compiling from scratch , you would probably also need to add the "Development Tools " applications

Cool, I had Dev Tools selected but I needed the X Soft Dev. Now it compiled and I did make install and installed a custom theme. Unfortunately it's not on my welcome screen. Here comes the hard part I guess.

I haven't found much with Google, and it's not in the README how to actually get it on your welcome screen.

I did 'man blackbox' and I see it's actually a program, but what config file do I need to modify to add it to my list?

Thanks for the help.

Alright I definitely made some progress (and blackbox with darklightz looks sick).

Had to edit /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc-common

And added the line of code (between dots) attached.

I can log in to my normal user and root, however no matter what I select blackbox starts (which isn't that bad of a problem, but I'd still like to be able to select). The thing was being stubborn so I just added it in there.
