If I wanted to install something like the new Western Digital Raptor hard drive on my machine, would I need anything other then the drive itself for it to work?

Also, how many of you are planning to get the Raptor after reading anandtech's review on it?

or you can get a PATA to SATA convertor

Actially, he'd need a SATA to PATA converter, as the Raptor is SATA and he is trying to connect it to a PATA board (so it seems).

I do not think there is a converter to connect SATA drives to PATA connectors. There ARE PATA to SATA converters, but those go the other way, ie to connect your PATA drives to SATA connections.

The adapter card is the way to go. (Unless I am mistaken and there ARE in fact converters to get SATA drives connected to PATA connections. I didn't find any though, but I also didnt look that hard.)
