So, aoe 2 only works on laptop, but looking down at it for 2 hours is a big pain. So i want to connect my 19" flat grill monitor to the laptop. Last time, i just plugged the monitor into the video out socket on the laptop, but the monitor didn't get a signal and the laptop just kept using it's screen. Did i do something wrong?

maybe i did, i might have plugged the monitor in whilst the comp is on, but i doubt i'd be that stupid. So is there some sort of window ssetting ihave to play with?

thanks for help

In order to use an external monitor with a notebook, you usually have to set that up in the BIOS. Then, your flat panel monitor must anve an analog port because most notebooks do not have digital ports.

well, the port on the back is just one of those blue 15 pin sockets, the type you find on a standard GFX card on yer desktop.
In the bios, will there be an option to make it like 'auto-detect', so if there is a monitor plugged in it will use that, if not it will use it's own screen? and what will the name of the option be?

There should be a "function" (fn) key on a laptop. Then you should find a key that will change the display output, usually deontes with "CRT/LCD". Just press the two keys together and you can switch the display between your monitor or laptop.

ok, it's sorted, i found the fn key, and when i press it, and the [ ] key on number 10, it cycles between single laptop monitor, mirroed laptop image to crt, and crt on it's own
