This seems fairly simple. I have the capture device, I just need a program to watch video from the vcr.

Is it possible to hook a vcr/dvd stand alone player to a pinnacle moviebox (composite video, svideo, etc) and utilize the moviebox to watch movies? They only include their video editing software, and the help support people seem clueless as to any other solutions. Is there a special software package needed for this soft of thing? It?s mainly going to be connected to a projector.

You might need to capture the video then watch it on the projector. I dont know how well those things work with watching streaming video.

It's a vcr/dvd standalone player. I would think the studio moviebox usb could simply act as an input, but there's not a software package that I have to simply play the dvd or tape.

Mine is hooked up to my Hauppauge card from a video switch box using S-Video cables + audio left and right cables. The app used to cap video from it came with the Hauppauge card. I edit the video with Womble MPEG2VCR so I can save the edited files without re-encoding.

The software that came with the Hauppauge can be used to watch and record at the same time. BTW the card I am using is the Win TV PVR 350. I use it to cap from DirecTV as well as dumping down my old VCR tapes when I get time to mess with that.

I don't have it hooked to a TV, I watch TV on the computer monitor.

for a program have you tried virtualdub? It is more used for video editing but it can also accomplish the task of watching video as well.

the projector is hanging from the ceiling; it only works in capture mode in virtualdub (ie. not full-screen)

also, why not just use a DVD ROM drive in the computer + powerdvd for playing DVD's?

VCR, get an ATI AIW card and use that. OR get a TV Tuner, and hook the COAX output from the VCR to the COAX input of the tuner card. set the tuner card to channel 3 and you're good to go.
